Emily Alden is a dancer, choreographer, and photographer based in Cornwall, UK. Her creative practice shifts between land and sea, stage and screen—rooted in the body, and shaped by movement, presence, personal experience, and place.

With over 20 years of professional experience, Emily has performed extensively across the UK and internationally, working with acclaimed choreographers and companies in theatres, on tour, and in site-specific locations. Her work spans dance, physical theatre, and film, and is known for its sensitivity, strength, and emotional depth.

As a photographer, Emily brings the same attentiveness as she does to movement—drawn to light, space, stillness, and the subtle choreography of human connection. Her visual work is both a personal creative practice and a way of witnessing others. Informed by her background as a dancer and her evolving experience with hearing loss, she creates images that are intuitive, embodied, and quietly powerful.

Her ongoing photographic series, Moving Light, explores the interplay between movement and stillness, time and sensitivity. It offers a visual language shaped by presence and perception.

Whether performing, facilitating, or photographing, Emily’s work is grounded in curiosity, deep thinking, and a commitment to artistic integrity.

The photographs featured on this site are a response to Emily’s re-calibrating of artistic practice, which has been supported by a Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England.
